Vulnerable people, care homes, medical needs

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine health agency (ARS) has triggered the departmental emergency hospital plan and is coordinating the medical evacuation of care facilities.

Smoke and air quality

Air quality across Nouvelle-Aquitaine has passed the pollution alert threshold because of the smoke. The regional health agency (ARS) recommends limiting time outdoors, keeping doors and windows closed, avoiding physical exertion, and watching over elderly people, young children and those with chronic cardio-respiratory conditions. Free FFP2 masks are being distributed to vulnerable people at on-duty pharmacies near the affected areas.

Roads & travel

Per the préfecture briefing of 26 July (1pm): the A63 is partially closed — south→north between junction 17 (Liposthey) and junction 24 (Cestas); north→south between the ring road and junction 23 (Marcheprime). Many secondary roads and cycle paths also change: check Gironde Inforoutes before travelling.

Tourists and holidaymakers

On holiday or travelling through a threatened area: keep your phone on and off airplane mode to receive FR-Alert (automatic broadcast, no app needed), know the exact commune your accommodation is in, evacuate immediately if asked, and don't rely on social media alone. The Bordeaux-Lac centre is a last resort if you have nowhere else to go.
